“anticulture with Josiah Sinanan” Nominated For OUTSTANDING SOCIETY & CULTURE In the 3rd Annual Canadian Podcast Awards

[CALGARY, CANADA] — [Jan. 8th, 2020] – ANTICULTURE WITH JOSIAH SINANAN announced today that it has been nominated for PODCAMP TORONTO’s second annual CANADIAN PODCAST AWARDS celebrating outstanding podcasts produced by Canadian podcasters, editors, and producers.

anticulture, a podcast hosted by Josiah Sinanan and based in Calgary, is a podcast that seeks to challenge and re-establish our view on what culture and identity really mean in today’s society, by listening intently to the unique experiences of those around us. With guests ranging from varying Indigenous voices, celebrities, immigrants, NGOs, and business owners, Josiah started the show to re-establish the concept of culture that we have developed by (even subconsciously) labeling those around us before we hear their full stories.

“Nominees like anticulture and Josiah Sinanan exemplify the wealth of talent we have here in Canada and reflect the unique attitudes, opinions, ideas, values, and creativity of Canadians,” said John Leschinski, Chair of Podcamp Toronto. “We had over 500 entries this year from across the country -- it’s really an incredible achievement to be selected by your peers in the Canadian podcasting community.”

“People are the most fascinating thing in the world to me. They still are. The uniqueness of individuality truly is a gift, and crazily enough, it's a gift we can share with others. I am so honoured that by highlighting this unbiased approach in journalism, my show can be highlighted in these awards. I hope it gets more people listening, and thus, more people thinking in this way.”

Winners will be announced at an awards party, as part of the 14th Annual Podcamp Toronto un-conference running from February 21-23, 2020.

ABOUT ANTICULTURE WITH JOSIAH SINANAN:

anticulture with Josiah Sinanan is a cultural podcast that seeks to re-establish the Western concept of culture - by instead focusing on the stories of the individuals around us. From Reality Television, to remote towns in Northern Alberta, to the complexities of immigration in countries like France, Josiah does not shy away from asking tough questions and hearing people’s experiences within the cultures they are in. From a mixed background himself, his cultural ambiguity is a strong component that allows him to come face to face with people we often misunderstand.
